Chapter 8: Electromagnetism (8.1): Current carrying Conductor

3.1 Current Carrying Conductor

1. Ferromagnetic - material attracted by magnet
Non-ferromagnetic - not attracted by magnet

2. Magnetic field lines - from NORTH to SOUTH

3. Current passing through a wire
    - Right hand grip rule:
        - Thumb: current
        - Fingers: direction of magnetic field

     - Maxwell Screw rule: outcome should be same as right hand grip rule
          - current (clockwise): magnetic field going inwards
          - current (anticlockwise): magnetic field going outwards

     - Compass following the direction of magnetic field lines

4. Strength of magnetic field:
     - Current of wire
     - Nearer to the wire (compass brought closer to the wire)
